Oh this looks pretty cool overall c: the only thing I think Its a bit off is the tail hehe, too fluffy and large for a wolf
Though it looks really awesome with the fact that you didnt used a photo ref or something :o Really nice anatomy :D

Don't worry, be happy~

A very helpfup how to hun! I really like the end results, its always fun when you "ink" to see your creation come to life! :3

"We have doomed the Wolf not for what it is, but for what we have deliberately and mistakenly perceived it to be.. the mythologized epitome of a savage, ruthless killer.. which is in reality no more than a reflexed image of ourself."

Typically a wolf's tail is perhaps 2/3's that length (the tip hangs around the ankles) and his face less jowly. The tuck up (curve of the belly) isn't quite as sharp. While as a stylized wolf it's perfectly acceptable, and I do love this drawing, if this were a real animal it would probably be a collie or shepherd judging by the jowls, long tail and exaggerated tuck-up. Another funny thing about wolves is that their heads are generally parallel to their shoulders. They might raise their head to display dominance or if they see something interesting, but a relaxed wolf keeps their head level the majority of the time.

Hope that's helpful. The differences between a wolf-like dog (husky, malamute, etc) and a dog don't seem that dramatic to the untrained eye, but the subtlety between their anatomies is what differentiates our domestic companions from their wild brethren. I think Lauren had a good comparison sketch between several canids that, though she kept it within her style, serves as a valuable lesson on canid anatomy. [link]
And of course the queen of canine anatomy is :iconkayfedewa:. She draws her wolves stylized, but I've seen her draw realistic wolves with amazing fidelty. The Off-White peeps are also very good at keeping to realistic anatomy, though they don't style the animals much. The trick is always maintaining a certain look while still making a recognizable creature.

Wow that's very helpful erin and I knew you and Kay would be the queen of wolf drawing. I think you should tell kay to draw a realistic canine and a how to at that. :) I would absolutely love to see it!
:iconwhisperpntr:
And yea I probably should go about and research some photos. Gosh now you make me feel guilty I didn't use the photo refs in the first place!! :p So much for laziness ;)
:iconwhisperpntr:
Well it doesn't really excuse it so I probably will come back and use a photo on here. :) thanks!
:iconsilverglass19:
Mmm yes, I'm also trying to teach myself wolves right now. They're tricky beasts! Why-oh-why did I decide to have humans AND wolves in the first few pages of my horse-comic? O_o

I think this is vereh nice! Obviously more knowledgeable folk than myself have given you good critiques, so I'll just sit back and go :la:!

Well it's not ok that I didn't use refs! *beams self on head*

I am hopelessly lazy at times so I went ahead and used a ref and changed the entire drawing so as not to mislead others :)
